題目列表(包括答案和解析)

Shopping on the Internet is becoming more and more popular. Why do people use the Internet to shop? Some people say it is more convenient. They don’t have to leave their homes to order something; they can shop for anything they want at any time; they can find things for sale that they can’t find in the stores near their homes. Still other people say they can find better prices on the Internet.

If you want to buy something on the Internet, you need a credit(信用)card. You have to type your credit card number and information on the website(網(wǎng)頁) and send them to the store over the Internet. You have to be sure that the store will not use your information in the wrong way. You don’t want someone to get your credit card numbers, so be careful with it, because people sometimes steal(竊取) credit card numbers from stores.

The Internet is also a good place to go window-shopping. Window-shopping is when you look at the things for sale in a store, but don’t plan to buy anything. In window-shopping you can see what kinds of things you are able to get and how much they cost. Somestores like Ross Stores have a website for information about their stores, but not for shopping. Some stores have a website for information about their stores, and you can shop on-line there, such as office Depot, Payless Shoe Source, Safeway. Some stores like Amazon. com are only for on-line shopping.

A.they can sleep all day long

B.they want to leave their homes.

C.they want to play with their friends

D.they can get things with less money.

What's your dream vacation? Watching wildlife in Kenya? Boating down the Amazon? Sunbathing in Malaysia? New chances are opening up all the time to visit the world. So we visit travel companies, compare prices, and pay our money.

We know what our vacation costs us. But do we know what it might cost someone else? It's true that many poorer countries now depend on tourism for foreign income. Unfortunately, though, tourism often harms the local(本地的) people more than it helps them.

It might cost their homes and lands. In Myanmar, 5,200 people were forced to leave their homes among the pagodas(佛塔) in Bagan so that tourists could visit the pagodas.

Tourism might also cost the local people their jobs and dignity(尊嚴(yán)). Local workers often find only low-paying jobs in the tourist industry. And most of the money do not help the local economy(經(jīng)濟(jì)). Instead, money return to the tour operators in richer countries, When the Maasai people in Tanzania were driven from their lands, some moved to poor places of the city. Others now make a little money selling things or acting for photos.

Problems like these were noticed more than 20 years ago. But now tour operators and local governments are working together to begin correcting them. Tourists, too, are putting on the pressure.

The result is “ethical(合乎職業(yè)道德的)tourism”. Ethical tourism has people at its heart. New international agreements and rules can help protect the people's lands, homes, economies and cultures. The beginnings are small, though, and the problems are complex(復(fù)雜的).

But take heart. The good news is that everyone, including us, can play a part to help the local people in the places we visit. Tour operators and companies can help by making sure that local people work in good conditions and earn the money they should get.

They can make it a point to use only locally owned hotel, restaurants and guide services. They can share some money to help the local economy. And they can help the local people plan and manage tourism.

What can tourists do? First, we can ask tour companies to provide information about the conditions of local people. We can then make our choices and tell them why. And while we're abroad, we can:

      Buy local foods and products.

Pay a fair price for goods and services and not bargain for the cheapest price.

Ask before taking photographs of people.

They are not just part of the scenery!

Let's enjoy our vacation and make sure others do, too.

1.Which of the following is not mentioned?

    A. Local people protected the pagodas in Bagan well.

    B. Tourists may stay in hotels opened by local people.

    C. Local people are mainly provided with low-paying work.

    D. Tourists had better not bargain with local people for a cheap price.

2. The underlined phrase "take heart" means"       ".

   A. pay attention        B. take care         C. cheer up        D. give up

3. According to the passage, the writer thinks           .

   A. tourism is not a promising industry

   B. dream vacations should be spent abroad

   C. the problems caused by tourism are easy to settle

   D. tourists should respect local customs and cultures

4.What is probably the best title for the passage?

    A. Tourism Causes Bad Effects.               B. Tourism Calls for Good Behavior.

    C. Vacations Bring a Lot of Fun.              D. Vacations Cost More Than You Think.

In the mid 1990s, people started doing business on the Internet. At that time, there were two kinds of companies. First, there were traditional companies which sold things in stores. Then, there were Internet companies which didn’t have stores, they sold things only over the Net.

Traditional companies didn’t want to lose any business. Quickly, they created their own websites and began selling things over the Net. These are the so-called “brick and click” companies. Many stores are made of brick, and you click on your mouse to buy things with your computer. That’s where the name “brick and click” comes from.

By the late 1990s, e-businesses like Amazon.com, Buy.com, and eToys.com were in trouble. Their profits(利潤) were not very high, and there was a lot of competition. Many of these businesses lost a lot of money, and in 2000, many e-businesses were out of business.

In the world of e-commerce(電子商務(wù)), companies are fighting for every dollar and every customer. Will brick and click companies win the war? Only time will tell.

Rivers are one of our most important natural resources(資源). Many of the world’s great cities are located on rivers, and almost every country has at least one river running through it that plays an important part in the lives of its people.
Since the beginning of history, people have used rivers for transportation. The longest one in the United States is the Mississippi. The lifeline of Egypt is the Nile. To the people of India, the Ganges is great, but it is also important for transportation; ships can travel along it for a thousand miles. Other great rivers are the Congo in Africa and the Mekong in southeastern Asia. The greatest of all for navigation(航海), however, is the Amazon in Brazil(巴西). It is so wide and so deep that large ships can go about two thousand miles up it.
Besides transportation, rivers give food to eat, water to drink, water for crops, and chances for fun. In order to increase the supply(供給) of water for crops, engineers sometimes build a dam (大壩)across a river and let a lake form behind the dam. Then people can use the water not only to irrigate(灌溉) their fields but also to make electricity for their homes and industries.
However, large cities and industries that are located on rivers often cause problems. As the cities grow in size and industries increase in number, the water in the rivers becomes polluted with chemicals and other materials. People are learning the importance, however, of doing more to keep their rivers clean if they want to enjoy the benefits of these natural resources.
