We have to stop at the next filling station, for the petrol ________.

  1. A.
    has run out
  2. B.
    runs out
  3. C.
    is running out
  4. D.
    will be run out
C
解析:
表示“用完,耗盡”時,run out相當(dāng)于一個不及物動詞,而run out of相當(dāng)于一個及物動詞,如用被動語態(tài),詞組中的of不可省去。從句意來看,A表示“油已用完”,“到下一個加油站”便不合邏輯。當(dāng)用該詞組的現(xiàn)在進(jìn)行時態(tài)時,可表示“快要用完”。

All over the world, children in hospital are being treated with a new kind of medicine: laughter. Lucy is 23 and works for Theodora Children’s Trust. She is one of many clown doctors who bring a smile to the faces of sick children.

“I’m a Theodora clown doctor. I call myself Dr Looloo. I spend two days a week in children’s hospitals, making funny faces, telling jokes, and doing magic tricks. As I walk into the wards I blow bubbles, shake hands with the kids, and make up nonsense songs for those children well enough to sing. I take special balloons to make ‘balloon animals’ and tell funny stories about them.

I’m naturally a very cheerful person. I’ve always been a clown. In fact my father’s a clown and I started working with him when I was eight years old. I knew it was just the job for me and I became a clown doctor because I think it’s a great way to cheer up sick, frightened children in hospital.

Being a clown in hospital is very tiring both physically and emotionally. We have to learn not to show our feelings, otherwise we’d be useless. Clown doctors are sensitive but this is not a side most people see. To the children we’re happy all the time. I’m still learning to allow myself to feel sad occasionally. There are special kids you get really close to. At the moment I’m working with a very sick little girl from Bosnia who speaks no English, so our only common language is laughter.

At weekends I participate in events to raise money for Theodora Children’s Trust. It’s a charity, so we are paid with the money people give. Being a clown doctor makes the worries of everyday life seem small. All in all, I feel honored to do this job. ”

Lucy works as a clown doctor because      .

A.her father is a clown               she has been a clown since she was eight

C.laughter is a great help to sick children   D.working in hospital brings her extra money

What do clown doctors usually do in hospital?

A.a(chǎn)n honorable and meaningful practice    an interesting job to make a living

C.a(chǎn) good way of getting rid of her worries       D.a(chǎn)n experience of great fun

“Wanted by the FBI.” To the murderer, or the bank robber, these are the most frightening words in the world. When the criminal hears them,he knows that six thousand trained persons are after him.

Why should he be so afraid? There are thousands of cities and villages where he can hide, and forests and deserts, as well. Besides, he’s usually rich with stolen money.

Money can make it easier to hide. With money, the criminal can even pay a doctor to operate on his face and make him hard to recognize. But the criminals know that as public enemies, they can be found by the FBI no matter where they hide.

They know every trick the criminal knows and many more. If he makes just one mistake, they’ll get him. That’s why the man who is wanted can’t sleep. That’s why he becomes nervous, why he jumps at every sound.

The FBI began on May 10th, 1924. General Harlan Stone chose Edgar Hoover, a young lawyer, to head the new agency . “What we need is a wholly new kind of police force,” he said. “Criminals today are smart. They use stolen cars and even planes to make their gateways. They have learned to open any lock, using advanced technology. We can’t beat them with old methods. We have to train officers to work scientifically.”

Edgar Hoover quietly went ahead with his plans. He picked his men carefully. They had to be between the ages of twenty-five and thirty-five. He wanted only men with good manners and good character. When working as his officers, they would have to meet all kinds of people. Hoover wanted men who could handle a teacup as well as a gun. But the FBI cannot help in every police problem. It can look into only certain crimes against the government. Solving all other crimes is the duty of local police forces.

A man wanted by the FBI will find that money is ________.

A.not at all useful               B.very helpful for a while

C.necessary for his crime         D.everything for him

Before he worked with the FBI,Edgar Hoover was a ____________.

    A.policeman     B.lawyer    C.teacher     D.general

The FBI was begun in order to       ____.

 C.fight crimes scientifically   D.offer jobs

A man who can “handle a teacup as well as a gun” has both ____________.

A.courage and manners         B.strength and kindness

C.wisdom and energy          D.a(chǎn)bility and humor

Tens of thousands of Chinese have joined a debate (辯論) on whether students should be separated into science(理科) and liberal arts(文科)classes in high school, a practice that allows them to stay competitive in college entrance exam by choosing preferred subjects. The debate came after the Ministry of Education began to ask for opinions from the public on Friday on whether it was necessary and possible to stop the dividing system, which has been accepted for decades.

In a survey started by www. qq. com, more than 260 000 people cast their votes, with 54 percent of those voted for the abolishment (廢除)and 40 percent against.

“Abolish the current system of division? We have to study nine subjects? Finally we will study everything and have learnt little,” wrote another netizen.

Li Yanling, an education expert in Beijing, called on education authorities to consider students’ school burden.

Chinese students are required to choose either arts or science subjects after ten years’ education, which include six years in primary school, three years in junior high school and one year in senior high school.

Besides the Chinese language, mathematics and English, which are must for everyone, science students are required to take physics, biology and chemistry, while arts students study politics, history and geography. Zxxk

Sunday is more like Monday than it used to be. Places of business that used to keep daytime “business hours” are now open late into the night. And on the Internet, the hour of the day and the day of the week have become irrelevant (不相關(guān)的). A half century ago in the United States, most people experienced strong and precise dividing lines between days of rest and days of work, school time and summer time. Today the boundaries still exist, but they seem not clear.

The law in almost all states used to require stores to close on Sunday; in most, it no longer does. It used to keep the schools open in all seasons except summer; in most, it still does. And whether the work week should strengthen its legal limits, or whether it should become more “flexible,” is often debated. How should we, as a society, organize our time? Should we go even further in relaxing the boundaries of  time until we live in a world in which every minute is much like every other?

These are not easy questions even to ask. Part of the difficulty is that we rarely recognize the “l(fā)aw of time” even when we meet it face to face. We know as children that we have to attend school a certain number of hours, a certain number of days, a certain number of years ― but unless we meet the truant officer (學(xué)監(jiān)), we may well think that we should go to school due to social custom and parents’ demand rather than to the law. As adults we are familiar with “extra pay for overtime working,” but less familiar with the fact that what constitutes (構(gòu)成) “overtime” is a matter of legal definition. When we turn the clock forward to start daylight-saving time, have we ever thought to ourselves: “Here is the law in action”? As we shall see, there is a lot of law that has great influence on how we organize and use time: compulsory education law, overtime law, and daylight-saving law ― as well as law about Sunday closing, holidays, being late to work, time zones, and so on. Once we begin to look for it, we will have no trouble finding a law of time to examine and assess.

67. By saying “Sunday is more like Monday than it used to be”, the writer means that      .

A. work time is equal to rest time

B. many people have a day off on Monday

C. it is hard for people to decide when to rest

D. the line between work time and rest time is unclear

68. The author raises the questions in Paragraph 2 to introduce the fact that people

A. fail to make full use of their time                 B. enjoy working overtime for extra pay

C. are unaware of the law of time                   D. welcome flexible working hours

69. According to the passage, most children tend to believe that they go to school because they ______.

A. need to acquire knowledge                          B. have to obey their parents

C. need to find companions                             D. have to observe .the law

70. What is the main idea of the passage?

A. Our life is governed by the law of time.

B. How to organize time is not worth debating.

C. New ways of using time change our society.

D. Our time schedule is decided by social customs.

科目:高中英語 來源:2015屆陜西省高一上學(xué)期第三次月考英語試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

It has always been said that women are not good drivers, because they simply don't have very good driving ability. On the other hand, most car accidents happen to men; very few happen to women.

From this, we can see that women are much more careful while driving. Another very interesting fact that we should point out is that in the past, women preferred to let their husbands be the only driver in the family rather than have a driving license. Somehow they were prevented from making this step in their lives, but nowadays there are many women that want to pass their driving tests from an early age.

However, we have to admit that men are more skillful drivers than women, but this does not mean that a woman cannot become a good driver by accumulating (積累) experience. So more and more teenagers and women around the age of thirty now want to pass their driving tests. While taking their driving lessons, they also have a number of special lessons with their parents or somebody in the family that has a driving license, this is just to improve their driving abilities and help them to pass the tests more easily.

To conclude, we can say that women are not such bad drivers. They just need more experience than men in order to be able to drive well. And on the other hand, there are a number of women that show better driving skills than the men around them.

1. Compared with the past, nowadays many women___.

A. prefer to have a driving license

B. have more accidents while driving

C. are somehow prevented from driving

D. are the only driver in the family

2.What advantage do women have over men in driving?

A. They have more skills.

B. They are much more careful

C. They know more traffic rules

D. They have more driving experience

3.What can we infer from the passage?

A. Teenage girls cannot take driving tests.

B. Men didn't allow women to drive in the past.

C. With enough experience, women can become good drivers.

D. Women can easily pass their tests by taking driving lessons.

4.The passage mainly talks about___.

A. women and their driving ability.

B. men and their driving ability.

C. why men are better drivers than women.

D. why more women like to have a driving license
