The President Goes to School
Last week，President Barack Obama gave a back-to-school speech to students at the Julia R．Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School in Philadelphia，Pennsylvania. Students in schools across the country also tuned in to watch the President's speech on TV. He stressed the importance of trying new things，working hard and believing in yourself.
We Need to Work Hard
While acknowledging that times are difficult for families across the country，Obama reminded students that hard work now can mean big success later.“Nobody gets to write your destiny(命運(yùn)) but you，”he said.“Your future is in your hands. Your life is what you make of it. And nothing，absolutely nothing，is beyond your reach.”
Obama spoke about his own life，and lessons he learned from his mother，who had to remind him to stay focused on his studies. He told students the secret of success：Showing up to school on time. Paying attention in class. Doing your homework. Studying for exams. Staying out of trouble.
Expand Your Mind
Obama encouraged students to hug what makes them different.“We shouldn't be embarrassed by the things that make us different，”he said.“We should be proud of them.”
He also suggested taking advantage of all of the chances at school，and always being open to trying new things.“That you're not the best at something today doesn't mean you can't be tomorrow，”he said.“Even if you don't think of yourself as a math person or as a science person—you can still excel in these subjects if you're willing to make the effort. And you may find out you have talents you'd never dreamed of.”

It has been a long time since I did anything good for the environment. Feeling responsible to protect the environment, I decided to take the action again. I told my idea to my friends and we planned to plant tree on the hill in the countryside. We came to the foot of the hill and selected a place where looked suitably and settled down. We spend a few hours digging holes and placing the young seedlings. Then we wrote our wishes on cards one to one and buried it deep down the roots of the trees. We also took a lot of pictures. We were such busy that we didn’t realize that it was time to go back. I felt really glad that we made difference to the environment.

There have been big changes in the attitudes of most parents over the last few years. Physical punishment is banned(被禁止) in schools in most countries, and in many countries, there are moves to ban all physical punishment of children even at home. In the same way, banning physical punishment will force people to change their habits.
In conclusion, parents have to change some of their belief and ideas about how children should be raised. It is possible to avoid the use of physical force, and doing so will help us move closer to the dream of removing violence from our society.

Then you will not be happy to hear that schools all over the world are seriously considering exchanging traditional desks for ones with no seats at all — Yes, that means you will be encouraged to stand through those already too long math and science lessons! Among them are educators from the College Station Independent School District in Texas, who recently completed a week-long experiment involving 480 students across three elementary schools. The 374 kids that agreed to participate in the study were provided a device that helped record step count and calorie consumption over the entire period.
All 25 teachers involved in the study reported that students appeared to be more alert and concentrate better, when allowed to stand. The one thing that did surprise the researchers was that younger kids were more willing to stay standing than kids in higher grades. They believe this may have something to do with the fact that after years of being asked to “sit still”, older kids have a harder time adjusting to this unexpected freedom.
American schools are not the only ones reporting success with stand-up desks. Four Catholic schools in Perth, Australia, which have been testing them since October 2013, have seen similar results. In May 2014, Grove House Primary School in Bradford, West Yorkshire, became Europe’s first test one, with a seven-week trial that involved the use of desks made by Ergotron in their fifth-grade classrooms. While official results are not out yet, early reactions from both teachers and students, have been extremely encouraging.
The findings of these studies and others done previously, all seem to mean that allowing kids to move around in classrooms is a win-win for students and teachers — it helps kids get healthier and provides educators with a more engaged audience.
