　　Education is required and free for every child in the United States. Most children start school by the age of six. They attend eight years of elementary school and four years of high school(or secondary school). The money for free public schools comes from Texas, and each state is responsible for its own educational system. State legislatures(立法機關(guān)) set the educational requirements but leave the management of the schools in the hands of the local communities. Most states require their children to go to school until a certain age. This age varies from 16 to 18, according to the laws of the individual(個別的) state. The Federal government contributes funds to the states for additional schools and school services.

　　After graduation from high school, a student can start his higher education in a two-year college, a four-year college, a university or a specialized professional school? Either public or private. Most colleges admit students on the basis of their high-school records. 　　Caught Twittering of on Facebook at work? It’ll make you a better employee．An Australian study shows that surfing the internet for fun during office hours increases productivity．

　　The University of Melbourne study showed that people who use the internet for personal reasons at work are about 9 percent more productive than those who do not．the study author Brent Coker, from the department of management and marketing, said “workplace Internet leisure browsing(工作時的網(wǎng)絡(luò)休閑)”， or WILB, helped to sharpen workers’ concentration．“People need to zone out for a bit to get back their concentration,” Coker said on the university’s website(www．unimelb．edu．a(chǎn)u/)．“Short breaks, such as quick surf of the Internet, enable the mind to rest itself, leading to a higher total net concentration for a day’s work, and as a result, increase productivity,” he said．

　　“Many firms spend millions on software to block their employees from watching videos, using networking sites or shopping online under the pretence that it costs millions in lost productivity,” said Coker．“That’s not always the case．”

　　However, Coker said the study looked at people who browsed in moderation(適度), or were on the Internet for less than 20 percent of their total time in the office．“Those who behave with Internet addiction tendencies will have a lower productivity than those without,” he said．
