A report, published in last week's Journal of the American Medical Association, offers a picture of how risky it is to get a lift from a teenage driver. Indeed, a 16-year-old driver with three or more passengers is three times as likely to have a fatal(致命)accident as a teenager driving alone. By contrast, the risk of death for drivers between 30 and 59 decreases with each additional passenger.
The author also found that the death rates for teenage drivers increased dramatically after 10 p. m.,and especially after midnight. With passengers in the car,the driver was even more likely to die in a late night accident.
Robert Foss, a scientist at the University of North Carolina Highway Safety Research Center, says the higher death rates for teenage drivers have less to do with "really stupid behavior" than with just a lack of driving experience. "The basic thing, "he says, "is that adults who are responsible for issuing(發放) licenses fail to recognize how skilled a task driving is. "
Both he and the author of the study believe that the way to reduce the harm is to have so-called graduated licensing systems, in which getting a license is a slower process. A graduated license requires that a teenager first prove himself capable of driving in the presence of an adult, followed by a period of driving at night with a limited number of passengers before graduating to get a full driving license.
Graduated licensing systems have reduced teenage driver crashes, according to recent studies. About half of the states now have some sort of graduated licensing system in place, but only 10 of those states have number limitation on passengers. California is the strictest, with a new driver prohibited from carrying any passenger under 20 for the first six months.

77.According to Robert Foss, the high death rate of teenage drivers is mainly due to_______.

As Apple tries to maintain its growth and success in China, the world's largest smart-phone market is becoming even more critical. Apple's shares(股份) fell sharply as the company's earnings for the holiday quarter through December disappointed investors.

The sales of the iPhone, which include both the iPhone 5 and older models, came in at the low end of analysts' expectations, while the company's income plan for the second quarter was below analysts' forecasts, though Apple is known to give conservative (保守的) forecasts.

Some analysts have said that for Apple to regain its growth, the company needs a more aggressive strategy(進攻型策略) for markets, or more specifically for China, where the market for smart phones has been expanding more rapidly than anywhere else. In China, demand is particularly great for inexpensive phones that run on Android(安卓) operating system, sold by many Chinese phone makers as well as South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co.

But Apple says it's already enjoying strong growth in China. "We saw big growth in iPhones," Chief Executive Tim Cook said. He said that the company has been quickly expanding its sales channels in China, including the number of Apple stores. "This isn't nearly what we need, we're not even close to that, but we're making great progress.” he said.

In China, a big missing piece for Apple is China Mobile Ltd. , the biggest local telecom carrier that doesn't yet sell the iPhone. Earlier this month, Mr. Cook met China Mobile Chairman Xi Guohua in Beijing and discussed cooperation, stirring hopes that the world's largest mobile carrier may soon start offering the iPhone.

Earlier this month, the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple is working on a lower-end iPhone that could launch as early as this year. But one possible challenge for Apple in China is that low-priced Android-based phones are getting better in terms of quality. A report from CLSA in late November showed that many smart-phones sold at about1,000 yuan ($160) came with higher- resolution screens, better cameras and more powerful processors than phones at that price did a year earlier.

1.Apple's shares dropped sharply because in December______________.

A.the iPhone wasn't popular in China

B.its product quality was widely criticized

C.the earnings for the holiday quarter was disappointing

D.the investors were not satisfied with Apple's management

2.What can we learn from the passage?

A.Apple tends to offer a lower sales forecast.

B.China Mobile Ltd began to team up with Apple.

C.Cook is pessimistic about what Apple did in China.

D.Apple didn't take measures to develop Chinese market.

3.The author uses the report from CLSA to prove         _____.

A.their prices are actually lower than a year earlier

B.Apple in China has ability to deal with any problem

C.low-ended Android-based phones are progressing fast

D.the promotion of lower-end iPhone will face a challenge

4.The main purpose of the passage is to show the readers ______________.

A.Apple's high popularity in China

B.the challenge Apple faces in China

C.the approaching failure Apple will suffer in China

D.Apple's aggressive strategy in its market expansion

科目:高中英語 來源:2015屆江蘇省高一3月月考英語試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

Did Steve Jobs kill the music industry? That’s the question on many people’s lips since rock star Jon Bon Jovi accused the Apple boss of personally destroying the music industry.Bon Jovi centers his criticism on how he believes music downloading has robbed young people of what he calls the “beauty of buying an album”. “Kids today have missed the beauty of taking your pocket money and making a decision based on the jacket (封面), not knowing what the record sounded like,” he said.

But far from killing the industry, many young people today think Jobs has been a blessing (帶來幸運的人), offering you instant, and selective access to a whole world of music.

Keith Staskiewicz at Enthertainment Weekly speaks for the feelings of many music lovers. He believes listening to MP3s rather than records or CDs “just save money” and doesn’t “remove the sense of discovery they get from new music”. Staskiewicz also argues that it’s wrong to blame Jobs and Apple for destroying anything. “Change is just part of the business,” Staskiewicz said. “No doubt in 50 years, Justin Bieber will complain about how kids don’t listen to ipods anymore.”

For now, though, it appears that music downloading is set to continue for the near future.

According to Summer Redstone, chairman of media company Viacom, iTunes has “resurrected(復興) the music industry by creating a legal, affordable purchasing system for fans”.

But recent surveys suggested that, despite the “legalizing(合法化)” of music downloading through sites like iTunes, young people are still choosing to download music illegally. A report by Jupiter Research suggested that illegal downloading sites are used three times as much as legal ones. The problem, according to its analyst Mark Mulligan, is how today’s youth grow up viewing music as something they can get for free.

He said, “Unless the musci industry can shift these consumers while they are young away from free consumption to paid music formats(格式), they may never develop music purchasing behavior and the recording industry could suffer long-term harm.”

1.Which one is TRUE about young people nowadays?

A.They are music lovers and are willing to save money to enjoy music.

B.The majority of them download music through legal sites like iTunes.

C.They are most likely to go back to the store to buy albums in the near future.

D.They are robbed of the change of enjoying music by Apple.

2.According to Mark Mulligan, the best solution to the problem of illegal music downloading is to_______.

A.legalize music downloading through sites like iTunes

B.help young people get used to paying for music

C.offer young people instant and selective access to a variety of music

D.create an affordable purchasing system for fans

3.What is the main point of the article?

A.How Steve Jobs and Apple destroyed the music industry.

B.Why young people prefer downloading music to buying albums.

C.The problem of illegal downloading of music.

D.Different opinions on effects of music downloading.
