A new retail phenomenon from Japan which allows customers to walk away with free products is to launch in Britain.

From tomorrow, visitors to Sample Trend’s central London store can try anything on its shelves, and all of the products can be taken home without charge. For a nominal annual membership fee of £60, users are free to enter the shop once a month and help themselves to no less than £250 worth of goods every year. The only ‘catch’ is that shoppers are asked to complete a simple questionnaire about each product they try.

Known as ‘try-vertising’, the concept allows manufacturers to test products and receive consumer feedback before launching onto the open market. It is already very popular in Japan and now looks set to transform the fortunes of the embattled(嚴陣以待的) UK retail industry. According to new figures, stores are facing a Christmas crisis with the weakest High Street trading for six months.

Michael Ghosh, the brainchild(創意者)behind Sample Trend, said: “The concept behind Sample Trend is unique in the UK. It allows shoppers the opportunity to walk away with a number of real, full-size products of their choosing without handing over a penny.”

The concept of in-store try-vertising is simple but effective. Businesses across all sectors, from cosmetic manufacturers to beverage(飲料) makers, place new products on the shelves at Sample Trend and wait for consumers to try them out.

Customers complete a short 10-point questionnaire about the product, and the feedback they provide is used to make any last-minute improvement before the product is brought officially to market. The Sample Trend store stocks everything from cosmetics, food and drink, and household goods.

Ghosh, the former advertising and sales director for Disney Europe, said such feedback may also build brand loyalty from the outset---a particularly appealing prospect for new businesses.

1.What can we know about the Sample Trend?

A. It has turned out to be a success in London.

B. The goods in the shop are free for everyone

C. The customers can only go to it once a month.

D. It sells everything people need.

2.The word “catch” (in para2) can be replaced by _________

A. advantage     B. disadvantage    C. problem    D. requirement

3.The customers need to fill a questionnaire to________

A. give suggestions for the products

B. recommend the products

C. give feedback about the products

D. express their thanks

【答案】

1.C

2.D

3.C

【解析】

試題分析:文章大意:日本的新式零售模式將進軍英國,按照這一模式,顧客可以免費拿走商品。

1.C細節理解題。根據第二段users are free to enter the shop once a month and help themselves to no less than £250 worth of goods every year.所以選擇C。根據第一段是說這種零售方式將進軍英國,所以并不能說已經成功,所以A不正確。B和D中的陳述太絕對化,與文章中的句子不對應。

2.D 詞義猜測題。 根據文章第二段的句子The only ‘catch’ is that shoppers are asked to complete a simple questionnaire about each product they try.得知“顧客唯一需要做的就是對試用的每樣商品填寫一份簡單的調查問卷!彼裕琧atch是指requirement需求;要求 ?梢源_定答案用D。

3.C 細節理解題。根據倒數第二段的句子Customers complete a short 10-point questionnaire about the product, and the feedback they provide is used to make any last-minute improvement before the product is brought officially to market. 可知,填寫調查問卷的目的是想得到顧客對商品的意見反饋,即答案選C。

See a cell phone cover that you like on Taobao? Forget about placing an order, paying the bill online and waiting for days for it to be delivered to you. In the near future, you'll be able to get it in minutes just by hitting "print" on your computer.
You might find it hard to believe that you could actually "print" an object like you would a picture. But it is not that hard to understand how it would work. Just as a traditional printer sprays (噴) ink onto paper line by line, modern 3-D printers spread material onto a surface layer by layer, from the bottom to the top, gradually building up a shape.
Instead of ink, the materials the 3-D printer uses are mainly plastic, resin (樹脂)and certain metals. The thinner each layer is --- from a millimeter to less than the width of a hair ---  the smoother and finer the object will be.
This may sound like a completely new technology, but the truth is that 3-D printing has been around since the late 1980s. Back then, it was hardly affordable for most people, so few knew about it.
Last year, though, saw a big change in the 3-D printing industry--- printers became much cheaper. For example, 10 years ago a desktop 3-D printer might have cost £20,000 (200,000 yuan), while now they cost only about £ 1,000, according to the BBC.
Taken out of the factory and introduced to more diverse and common uses, 3-D printing can create just about anything you can think of ---flutes (笛子), bikinis, jewelry, aircraft parts and even human organs. In fact, scientists from Cornell University in New York have just made an artificial ear using a 3-D printer, according to Science Daily. The fake ear looks and acts exactly like a natural one.
However, as 3-D printing becomes more common, it may bring about certain problems --- such as piracy(盜版). "Once you can download a coffee maker, or print out a new set of kitchen utensils (餐具) on your personal 3-D printer, who will visit a retail (零售的) store again?" an expert in 3-D printing told Forbes News. Even more frightening, what if anyone in the world could use a 3-D printer to print out a fully functioning gun?
【小題1】According to the article, in the future, the 3-D printing technology will ___.

A.enable people to make better purchases online
B.be applied as widely in our daily lives as computers
C.change the way we make many products
D.shorten the time it takes for people to get what they buy online
【小題2】What was the big event happening in the 3-D printing industry last year?
A.The 3-D printing technology was taken out ofthe factory.
B.The 3-D printer became more affordable forconsumers.
C.The 3-D printer was used for medical treatmentfor the first time.
D.3-D printing technology began to be used invarious fields.
【小題3】How is the last paragraph developed?
A.By analyzing a cause and an effect.B.By making comparisons.
C.By giving examples.D.By presenting research findings.
【小題4】What is the best title of the passage?
A.Printing out everythingB.Technology in the future
