                                                           How to make friends
Choosing friends
     Before you make friends, you have to decide who you want to be your friends. Mo.st people like to have
friends who like to do the same kind of things as they do. That doesn't mean you have to be exactly like each
other, just that you enjoy some of the same things. Think about your favorite things to do and try to talk to
your classmates at lunch or rest about your hobbies. You are sure to find at least one person who's excited
about the same things that excite and interest you, too.
Making friends
      ①The quickest way to make a friend is to smile. When you smile, people think you are friendly and easy
to talk to. It may not be easy at first to smile. But you can practice smiling in front of a mirror. When you
look at yourself in the mirror, think if you'd rather talk to your smiling face or your usual scared or angry face.
     ②One easy way to start a conversation with someone is to say something nice about them. Think about
how great you feel when someone says something nice to you. Doesn't it make you want to talk to him?
     ③Ask your new friend's questions about themselves. It's the only way to get to know what they're like
and it's the only way they'll know that you are interested in them.
     ④Make sure you have something to add to the conversation, too. When someone asks you a question, do
have an answer for them. There is nothing that will stop a conversation quicker than a shrug (聳肩) for an
answer. Activities
     After you've made a friend who shares the same interests with you, it's always fun to plan activities together
that you'll both enjoy. Inviting a friend to your house after school is a great way to make your friendship closer.
If you know a game your friend likes to play, you can plan to do that together. When you play a computer
game, one person is always left sitting with nothing to do but watch Not fun.

You are unique. You can never be like other people, and neither can other people be like you. The way you measure your success is not determined by other people and what they achieve. Instead, it is determined by your own life purpose. You have everything you need to achieve your life purpose, so it’s useless to compare yourself with others.

The way people hold the belief that a fun-filled, pain-free lifestyle equals happiness actually reduces their chances of ever obtaining real happiness. If fun and pleasure are equal to happiness，then pain must be equal to unhappiness. But in fact，the opposite is true: more often than not things that lead to happiness contain some pain.
As a result，many people avoid the very attempts that are the source of true happiness．They fear the pain inevitably (不可避免地) brought by such things as marriage，raising children，professional achievement, religious commitment, self-improvement．
Ask a bachelor why he resists marriage even though he finds dating to be less and less satisfying. If he is honest，he will tell you that he is afraid of making a commitment，for commitment is in fact quite painful. The single life is filled with fun, adventure and excitement．Marriage has such moments, but they are not its most distinguishing features.
Couples，with infant children, are lucky to get a whole night’s sleep of a three-day vacation. We don’t know any parent who would choose the word fun to describe raising children. But couples that decide not to have children ever know the joys of watching a child grow up or playing with a grandchild.

Understanding and accepting that true happiness has nothing to do with fun is one of the most liberating realizations. It liberates time: now we can devote more hours to activities that can really increase our happiness. It liberates money: buying that new car or those fancy clothes to increase our happiness now seems pointless. And it liberates us from envy: we now understand that all those who always have so much fun actually may not be happy at all.
