Beautiful cars surrounded by even more beautiful models—it’s no secret why the 2012 Beijing Auto Show was popular.
The exhibition was held between April 23 and May 2.Although renowned companies showed off their top models,it wasn’t just their expensive sports cars that grabbed people’s attention.
Concept cars are a way for designers to test out their ideas on the public with complete freedom. They can try out cars with special features that could not be massively(批量)produced easily.
Designers don’t have to follow industry rules;they don’t even need to worry about whether their cars would be followed on the roads.
At the Beijing Auto Show,the@Ant by Chery was one concept car to draw a lot of attention.China Daily called it‘‘the very definition of a concept car”.
The vehicle is powered by electricity and is capable of driving itself. But the magic doesn’t end there.
The@Ant was inspired by actual ants.According to Car News China, with the help of automated telemetric systems,@Ants are able to“see” other@Ants and compare  destination information. If two are heading the same way for a while, the vehicles connect, with one car’s rear (后面的)wheels matching up with the front wheels of another car.Up to 10@Ants can be put together and will automatically connect to form a“train".This  will help save energy while traveling, as well reducing traffic jams.
The car sounds like a great idea.Further research will be needed to turn this concept  car into something for the market, but concepts like Cherry’s  show how carmakers are  working for cleaner and greener vehicles. It’s like what the@Ant motto says,“Exploring future human beings’lifestyles”.

Television is a relatively stable advertising medium. In many ways, the television ads today are almost the same to those two decades ago. Most television ads still feature actors, still run 30 or 60 seconds, and still show a product. However, the different medium of the Internet causes unique challenges to advertisers, forcing them to adapt their practices and techniques.
In the early days of Internet marketing, online advertisers used banner (框式廣告) and pop-up ads (彈出式廣告) to attract customers. These techniques reached large audiences, led to many sales leads, and came at a low cost. However, a small number of Internet users began to consider these advertising techniques annoying. Yet because marketing strategies relying heavily on banners and pop-ups produced results, companies invested growing amounts of money into purchasing these ad types. As consumers became more complicated, frustration with these online advertising techniques grew. Independent programmers began to develop tools that blocked banner and pop-up ads.
A major development in online marketing came with the introduction of pay-per-click ads. Unlike banner or pop-up ads, which originally required companies to pay every time a website visitor saw an ad, pay-per-click ads allowed companies to pay only when an interested potential customer clicked on an ad. More importantly, however, these ads are not affected by the pop-up and banner blockers. As a result of these advantages and the incredible growth in the use of search engines, which provide excellent places for pay-per-click advertising, a great number of companies began turning to pay-per-click marketing. However, as with the banner and pop-up ads, pay-per-click ads came with their shortcomings. When companies began pouring billions of dollars into this emerging medium, online advertising specialists started to notice the presence of what would later be called click fraud (欺詐): representatives of a company with no interest in the product advertised by a competitor click on the competitor’s ads simply to increase the marketing cost of the competitor. Click fraud grew so rapidly that marketers sought to diversify (擺脫) their online positions away from pay-per-click marketing through new mediums.
Although pay-per-click advertising remains a common and effective advertising tool, marketers adapted yet again to the changing elements of the Internet by adopting new techniques such as pay-per-performance advertising. As the pace of the Internet’s evolution increases, it seems all the more likely that advertising successfully on the Internet will require a strategy that avoids constancy (持續性) and welcomes change.
小題1:What is the main idea of the passage?
A.The pace of the Internet’s evolution is increasing and will only increase in the future.
B.Internet advertising fails to reach Internet users, causing ads to be blocked.
C.The Internet has experienced dramatic changes in short periods of time.
D.Rapid development of the Internet calls for new advertising strategies and mediums.
小題2:As an advertising medium, the television and the Internet mainly differ in ________.
A.the type of individual each medium reaches
B.whether the medium is interactive
C.the pace at which the medium develops
D.the cost of advertising with each medium
小題3:According to the passage, which of the following is a typical click fraud?
A.Using software to block competitors’ advertisements.
B.Clicking on the pay-per-click ads of competitors.
C.Clicking on the banner advertisements of opponent companies.
D.Using search engine to attack the pages of competitors.
小題4:What does the author imply about the future of pay-per-performance advertising?
A.It will eventually become less popular just like other forms of Internet advertising.
B.It will not face shortcomings due to its differing approach to online marketing.
C.Internet users will develop free software to block its effectiveness.
D.Although it improves on pay-per-click advertising, it still suffers from click fraud.

In nature, you may see many insects and animals of different colors. Have you ever wondered why?
Locusts (蝗蟲)are super delicious food for birds, but it is not always an easy job for birds to catch them. It is neither because locusts are good jumpers or runners nor because they are smarter than their enemies(敵人). The reason is that the colors of locusts change with the colors of crops (莊稼). When crops are young, locusts look green. But when autumn comes, locusts change to the yellow and brown color as crops do.
Brown bears, tigers and other animals move quietly through forests. They can’t be seen easily by their enemies. This is because they have colors similar to the trees. For the same reason, polar bears that live on a land of snow and ice are white. Butterflies (蝴蝶)and bees living among the flowers are colorful like flowers. Soil insects are mostly dark-colored and they live under the soil in a dark and wet environment. However, insects with colors different from plants can easily be found and eaten by others. So in order to survive, they have to hide themselves in the daytime and appear only at night.
Have you ever noticed some even stranger acts(行為)? The ink fish in the sea can send out some very black ink when it faces danger. As the ink spreads over, its enemies will find themselves in a dark world. At the same time the ink fish immediately swims away. That is how it keeps itself safe though it is not strong at all.
小題1:According to the passage, most soil insects ______
A.do not have bright colors
B.change their colors with the soil
C.do not live in a dark and wet environment.
D.eat colorful insects like butterflies and bees.
小題2:What’s the meaning of the underlined word “survive” in the passage?
A.繁殖B.產卵C.覓食D.生存
小題3:What is the main idea of this passage?
A.Some insects and animals have different skills.
B.Some insects and animals are cleverer than we think.
C.Some insects and animals use colors to protect themselves.
D.Some insects and animals can get used to the environment easily.

The State Council declared Wednesday it would restart China's nuclear power program, ending the hiatus(中斷)in nuclear construction since Japan's Fukushima nuclear disaster last year.
China has been the most courageous country in building nuclear power, with the largest number of plants currently under construction. Nuclear power is facing a tough time in developed countries. The Japanese public is demanding the closure of all the country's nuclear power plants. China is at the forefront of nuclear power development. But it has been forced into this position.
Rapid economic development coupled with improvements in people's life both demand more electricity. It is impossible to exploit fossil resources forever as the supply of coal, oil and natural gas is limited. China has no choice but to develop nuclear power.
China must be the safest user of nuclear power. It should become a leading country in developing nuclear power technologies and increasing the world's knowledge of nuclear power.
It needs to do at least two things. First, it needs to promote safety in nuclear power plants, based on the technologies of the West. The former Soviet Union, the US and Japan all had severe nuclear accidents, proving there are risks. China should try to remove these risks.
Second, China should establish effective communication mechanisms(機制)between the government, power plants and the public. It's wrong to think the government can control every aspect of nuclear power plant construction.
The opposition to nuclear power program in developed countries has prevented them from building new plants, but they already have many. These governments are reluctant to close these plants despite strong opposition, because they cannot find better substitutes.
Nuclear power only occupies 1.8 percent of China's current electricity grid(輸電網), much lower than the proportion in many developed countries. China's nuclear power plan should introduce the advantages of the technologies of other countries and also be creative in providing security. Its space technology is not the most advanced, but its launch safety measures have proven to be among the best.
China's high-profile high-speed railway development has drawn a lot of controversy, as will the active attitude towards developing nuclear power. But China cannot just copy what the developed countries have done. The development of nuclear power must be unique to China and it must be a ground-breaking success. But now, the real test lies ahead.
小題1:In the third paragraph the writer focuses on ______.
A.the reason why China is to develop nuclear power
B.the difficulty China has in developing nuclear power
C.the measures China will take to develop nuclear power
D.the benefits China will have by developing nuclear power
小題2:What attitude do people in developed countries have towards nuclear power program?
A.Supportive. B.Opposed. C.Indifferent.D.Objective.
小題3:. If the Chinese government is to develop nuclear power, it needs to ______.
A.copy exactly what the developed countries have done
B.depend entirely on domestic scientists and technologies
C.avoid people’s involvement in nuclear power plant construction
D.do everything in its power to guarantee safety in nuclear power plants
小題4:What is the future of China’s nuclear power program according to the text?
A.It will be unique but can hardly pass too many tests.
B.It will be full of controversy but carried out firmly.
C.It will be on a smooth way to a ground-breaking success.
D.It will receive much opposition from developed countries.

Humans have sewn by hand for thousands of years. It was said that the first thread was made from animal muscle and sinew (肌腱). And the earliest needles were made from bones. Since those early days, many people have been involved in the process of developing a machine that could do the same thing more quickly and with greater efficiency.
Charles Wiesenthal, who was born in Germany, designed and received a patent on a double-pointed needle that eliminated the need to turn the needle around with each stitch (縫合) in England in 1755. Other inventors of that time tried to develop a functional sewing machine, but each design had at least one serious imperfection.
Frenchman Barthelemy Thimonnier finally engineered a machine that really worked. However, he was nearly killed by a group of angry tailors when they burned down his garment factory. They feared that they would lose their jobs to the machine.
American inventor Elias Howe, born on July 9, 1819, was awarded a patent for a method of sewing that used thread from two different sources. Howe’s machine had a needle with an eye at the point, and it used the two threads to make a special stitch called a lockstitch. However, Howe faced difficulty in finding buyers for his machines in America. In frustration, he traveled to England to try to sell his invention there. When he finally returned home, he found that dozens of manufacturers were adapting his discovery for use in their own sewing machines.
Isaac Singer, another American inventor, was also a manufacturer who made improvements to the design of sewing machines. He invented an up-and-down-motion mechanism that replaced the side-to-side machines. He also developed a foot treadle (腳踏板) to power his machine. This improvement left the sewer’s hands free. Undoubtedly, it was a huge improvement of the hand-cranked machine of the past. Soon the Singer sewing machine achieved more fame than the others for it was more practical. It could be adapted to home use and it could be bought on hire-purchase. The Singer sewing machine became the first home appliance, and the Singer company became one of the first American multinationals.
However, Singer used the same method to create a lockstitch that Howe had already patented. As a result, Howe accused him of patent infringement (侵犯). Of course, Elias Howe won the court case, and Singer was ordered to pay Howe royalties (版稅). In the end, Howe became a millionaire, not by manufacturing the sewing machine, but by receiving royalty payments for his invention.
小題1:Barthelemy Thimonnier’s garment factory was burned down because __________.
A.people did not know how to put out the fire
B.Elias Howe thought Thimonnier had stolen his invention
C.the sewing machines couldn’t work finally
D.workers who feared the loss of their jobs to a machine set fire
小題2:Why did the court force Isaac Singer to pay Elias Howe a lifetime of royalties?
A.Because the judge was against Singer for his unfriendly attitude.
B.Because Howe had already patented the lockstitch used by Singer.
C.Because Singer had borrowed money from Howe and never repaid it.
D.Because Singer and Howe had both invented the same machine.
小題3:Which of the following would be the best title for this passage?
A.A Stitch in Time Saves Nine
B.The Case between Howe and Singer
C.Patent Laws on the Sewing Machine
D.The Early History of the Sewing Machine

Recently there was a major discovery in the scientific research—the mapping of all DNA in a human gene(基因) is complete.Couple of years ago, this seems an impossible task for scientist to accomplish. All this progress in science leads us to believe that the day, when the human being will be cloned, is not far away.Human cloning has always been a topic of argument, in terms of morality or religion.
Taking a look at why cloning might be beneficial, among many cases, it is arguable that parents who are known to be at risk of passing a genetic limitation to a child could make use of cloning. If the clone was free of genetic limitations.then the other clone would be as well. The latter could foe inserted in the woman and allowed to ripen to term. Moreover, cloning would enable women, who can't get pregnant, to have children of their own.
Cloning humans would also mean that organs could be cloned, so it would be a source of perfect transfer organs. This, surely would be greatly beneficial to millions of unfortunate people around the world that are expected to lose their lives due to failure of single (or more) organ (s).It is also arguable that a ban on cloning may be unlawful and would rob people of the right to reproduce and limit the freedom of scientists.
Arguments against cloning are also on a perfectly practical side.Primarily, I believe that cloning would step in the normal "cycle" of life. There would be a large number of same genes, which reduce the chances of improvement, and, in turn, development—the fundamental reason how living things naturally adapt to the ever-changing environment.Life processes failing to do so might result in untimely disappearance.Furthermore, cloning would make the uniqueness that each one of us possesses disappear. Thus, leading to creation of genetically engineered groups of people for specific purposes and, chances are, that those individuals would be regarded as "objects" rather than people in the society.
Scientists haven't 100 per cent.guaranteed that the first cloned humans will be normal. Thus this could result in introduction of additional limitations in the human "gene-pool".
Regarding such arguable topics in "black or white" approach seems very innocent to me personally. We should rather try to look at all "shades" of it.I believe that cloning is only legal if its purpose is for cloning organs; not humans. Then we could regard this as for "saving life" instead of "creating life".I believe cloning humans is morally and socially unacceptable.
小題1:Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A.Genetic limitation will be beneficial for some women
B.A large number of genes will prevent us from developing
C.Prohibition of cloning might limit the freedom of scientists
D.First cloned humans might be normal according to scientists
小題2:What's the author's opinion on cloning?
A.Cloning should be entirely banned.
B.Cloning should be used in creating life.
C.Cloning will take away the right to reproduce.
D.Cloning is acceptable if it is used for cloning organs.
小題3:Where can you read this article?
A.In a story book
B.In a magazine
C.In a science fiction
D.In a brochure
小題4:Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?

A research found that people shown silent videos of piano competitions could pick out the winners more often than those who could also hear the music. It underlines the importance of our sense of vision, say scientists. Their study concludes that the best predictor of a winner’s musical performance was the visible passion they displayed, followed closely by their uniqueness and creativity.
Chia-Jung Tsay, from University College London, UK, is the study’s author and herself a concert pianist. She was interested in how music was judged and found that even professional musicians were unaware of how much they were using visual information over sound. “For the last two decades, I’ve taken part in various competitions. Through this experience, I found that depending on what type of evaluations were used, the results might vary widely. This led me to wonder about how much visual information really affects these important decisions,” she explained.
More than 1,000 participants in the study were given samples of either audio, silent video or video with sound, and asked to rate the top three finalists from 10 international classical music competitions. The actual competition winners were only correctly identified by those who were randomly assigned(分配) the silent videos.
Dr Tasy said the findings were quite surprising, especially because both trained musicians and those without training had stated that sound was most important for their evaluation. “Regardless of levels of expertise, we still seem to be led primarily by visual information, even in this field of music,” she said. “Classical music training is often focused on improving the quality of the sound, but this research is about getting to the bottom of what is really being evaluated at the highest levels of competitive performance. She added, “We must be more mindful of our inclination(傾向) to depend on visual information at the expense of the content that we actually value as more relevant to our decisions.”
小題1:According to the study, who would most probably win a piano competition?
A.One who plays with great passion.
B.One who plays unique music.
C.One who plays creatively.
D.One who has a sense of vision.
小題2:The participates in the study were asked to__________.
A.watch classical music competitions
B.assign the silent videos
C.pick out the best three competitors
D.decide who the winner is
小題3:What probably led Dr Tsay to carry out the study?
A.Her love for music.
B.Her desire to explore.
C.Her experience as a competitor.
D.Her curiosity in musical education.
小題4:Where does this text probably come from?
A.A text book.B.A sports magazine.
C.A story book.D.A science website.

Human cloning technology could be used to reserve heart attacks. Scientists believe that they may be able to treat heart attack by cloning their healthy heart cells and injecting them into the areas of the heart that have been damaged, and other problems may be solved if human cloning and its technology are not forbidden.
With cloning, infertile couples could have children. Current treatments for infertility, in terms of percentages, are not very successful. Couples go through physical and emotionally painful procedures for a small chance of having children. Many couples run out of time and money without successfully having children. Human cloning could make it possible for many more infertile couples to have children than ever before.
We should be able to clone the bone marrow(骨髓) for children and adults suffering from leukemia(白血病). This is expected to be one of the first benefits to come from cloning technology. We may learn how to switch cells on and off through cloning and thus be able to cure cancer.
Cloning technology can be used to test for and perhaps cure gene-related diseases. The above is just a few examples of what human cloning technology can do for mankind. This new technology promises unprecedented (前所未有的)advancement in medicine if people will release their fears and let the benefit begin.
小題1:What does the underlined word “infertile” (paragraph 2) most probably mean?
A.with physical and emotional problems
B.short of time and money
C.unable to give birth to children
D.separated from each other for a long time
小題2:According to the text, one of the first expected benefits from cloning technology is in ______.
A.the treatment of mental diseases
B.the reserve of heart diseases
C.the cure of gene-related diseases
D.the bearing of babies
小題3:According to the writer, the main problem with the development of human cloning technology is that__________.
A.it has brought about benefits so far
B.it may be out of human control
C.people still know little about it
D.people are afraid of such technology

In the past, man did not have to think about protection of the environment. There were very few people on the earth, and natural resources seemed to be unlimited.
Today things are different. The world has become too crowded. We are using up our natural resources too quickly, and at the same time we are polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we continue to do this, human life on the earth will not survive.
Everyone realizes today that if too many fish are taken from the sea, there will soon be none left. Yet, with modern fishing methods, more and more fish are caught. We know that if too many trees are cut down, forests will disappear and nothing will grow on land. Yet, we continue to use more powerful machines to cut down more and more trees.
We realize that if rivers are polluted with waste products from factories, we will die. However, in most countries waste is still put into rivers, but there are few laws to stop this.
We also know that if the population of the countries in the world is to rise at the present rate in a few years, there will not be enough food.
What can we do to solve these problems?
If we eat more vegetables and less meat, there will be more food available for everyone. Land that is used to grow crops can feed five times more people than land where animals are kept.
Our natural resources will last longer if we learn to recycle them.
The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methods of birth control.
Finally, if all of us think about the problem, we will have a better and cleaner planet in the future.
小題1:This passage mainly tells us about ______.
