精英家教網 > 高中英語 > 題目詳情

It's not a new phenomenon, but have you noticed how many nouns are being used as verbs? We all use them, often without noticing what we're doing.

I was arranging to meet someone for dinner last week, and I said “I’ll pencil it in my diary”, and my friend said “You can ink it in”, meaning that it was a firm arrangement not a tentative one!

Many of these new verbs are linked to new technology. An obvious example is the word fax. We all got used to sending and receiving faxes, and then soon started talking about faxing something and promising we'd fax it immediately. Then along came email, and we were soon all emailing each other madly. How did we do without it? I can hardly imagine life without my daily emails.

Email reminds me, of course, of my computer and its software, which has produced another couple of new verbs. On my computer I can bookmark those pages from the World Wide Web that I think I'll want to look at again, thus saving all the effort of remembering their addresses and calling them up from scratch. I can do the same thing on my PC, but there I don't bookmark; I favorite—coming from “favorite pages”, so the verb comes from an adjective not a noun.

Now my children bought me a mobile phone, known simply as a mobile and I had to learn yet more new verbs. I can message someone, that is, I can leave a message for them on their phone. Or I can text them, write a few words suggesting when and where to meet, for example. How long will it be before I can mobile them, that is, phone them using my mobile? I haven’t heard that verb yet, but I’m sure I will soon. Perhaps I’ll start using it myself!

1.“I’ll pencil it in my diary” in the second paragraph probably means          .

A.it was a firm arrangement

B.he prefers a pencil to a pen

C.the arrangement should be written as a diary

D.it was an uncertain arrangement

2.A website address can be easily found if it has been______.

A.favorited          B.messaged         C.emailed           D.texted

3.Which of the following has not been used as a verb yet?

A.message          B.mobile            C.email             D.page

4.The best title for this passage is____.

A.Technology and Language.               B.Development of the English language

C.New Technology and New words            D.New Verbs from Nouns

【答案】

1.D

2.A

3.B

4.D

【解析】

試題分析:本文講述的是在語言的發展過程中,很多次的詞性都發生了變化,由名詞變成了動詞。本文舉了多個例子來證明這一點。

1.D 推理題。根據第二段2,3行“I’ll pencil it in my diary”, and my friend said “You can ink it in”, meaning that it was a firm arrangement not a tentative one!說明用鉛筆寫的是不確定的,用墨水寫的是確定的,故D正確。

2.A 推理題。根據第四段最后兩行I favorite—coming from “favorite pages”, so the verb comes from an adjective not a noun.說明我們可以從最喜歡的網頁中找出自己喜歡的,也就是說你 可以把這些網站放在你所喜歡的收藏夾里。故A正確。

3.B 細節題。I can message someone和we were soon all emailing each other madly以及 I favorite—coming from “favorite pages”, so the verb comes from an adjective not a noun.

Pets are popular. They’re good listeners, they encourage us to exercise, and they’re always on our side when we argue with others. They can bring people comfort and pleasure.
But it is important to keep in mind that pets can carry diseases that can make you sick. Washing your hands often — especially after you touch, feed, or clean up a pet — is the best way to keep yourself healthy and prevent the spread of disease. Be sure to clean your fingernails(指甲)carefully every time you wash.
You also can protect your health by wearing gloves while cleaning animal cages or cat litter boxes. Avoid washing your pet in the bathtub (浴缸), but if you do, always disinfect (消毒) the tub immediately afterward.
Be sure to bring your pet to the hospital for examinations every two weeks or month and whenever your pet is sick or injured.
You can do a few other things to keep yourself and your pet healthy. Only give your pet food that has been planned ahead for them. It’s not a good idea to share your food with your pet. Human food (like chocolate) can make animals sick. Never feed your pet raw meat because it can carry germs (細菌) that cause serious illness.
And funny as it can be to see your dog or cat drinking from the toilet, don’t let pets do this. It’s bad for your pet’s health! Give them clean, fresh water to drink at all times.
Never give milk to cats. The only milk an animal should drink is from its mother. Cow’s milk is not for pets, especially for cats, as it makes them sick.
Finally, some animals aren’t pets. Don’t take in a wild or abandoned (被拋棄的) animal as a pet because it may have diseases that could make you or your family sick. Instead, turn to an animal rescue group that is trained in helping sick or abandoned animals.
【小題1】The first paragraph mainly tells us that pets can ______.

C.washing your pet in the bathtub
D.bringing your pet for examinations regularly
【小題3】The underlined word “it” in Para.7 refers to ______.
A.the cowB.the mother cat
C.cow’s milkD.mother cat’s milk
【小題4】 Which is the RIGHT way to feed your pet?
A.Sharing your chocolate with your dog.
B.Letting your dog drink from the toilet.
C.Feeding your little cat with raw meat.
D.Giving your cat cooked fish.
【小題5】 According to the text, when you meet an abandoned dog, you should ______.
A.call an animal rescue group
B.bring it back to your home
C.give it first aid(急救)in time
D.help to find its owner

When you take a taxi in the United States, if you sit in the front seat, the driver will be pleased and talk with you all the way. If you sit in the back seat, however, the driver may be unhappy and unwilling to speak.

At first, I thought that this had something to do with different characters (性格) of the drivers. Later, after I’d had more experiences with taxis, I found that it happened very often. Only when I arrived in San Francisco did I ____________.

I went to see Sonia in San Francisco. One day, Sonia drove the car while her husband, Ji An, sat beside her, and I sat behind Ji An. Later, Ji An got out of the car and suggested that I sit where he had been sitting. It’s not a long way, so I told him that it didn’t matter, but Ji An insisted. I had to move, feeling a little strange.

“Do you know why Ji An asked you to sit here?” Sonia asked me. I shook my head. “If you sit in the front, it means that you and I are friends. If you sit in the back, it seems that I’m just your driver and our relationship is of employer and employee.”

With those words, I understood at once why taxi drivers were so pleased when people sat in the front. On the face of it, the only issue was where one sat. As a matter of fact, where to sit also reflected (反映) the degree of one’s respect for the driver.

Although it is true that the relationship between driver and passenger is a business relationship, people still place an emphasis (強調) on respect and friendship beyond any monetary (金錢的) relationship.

科目:高中英語 來源:20102011學年江西省南昌市高二下學期期中考試英語試題 題型:閱讀理解

Every summer thousands of Americans stay at home instead of going on holiday because they're overweight. They don't want people to see them sunbathing and they don't want to have to squeeze into plane seats,But now, thanks to the growing number of weight-friendly holiday packages, the overweight are having their days in the sun.

"Overweight people will have a great time on our holidays as we don't judge them like other people do," said Liz Nickels, the owner of Big Adventures,a US-based company that hosts scuba-diving—a sport of swimming underwater while breathing through a tube connected to a tank on your back for larger people. As a way to keep up with the demand for extralarge accommodation, many hotels in the US have started to offer features such as wide beds and hand-held showers. But the best in plus-size vacation lies at Mexico's Freedom Paradise,a 112-room resort(度假勝地) opening this month, which urges guests to" Live Large,Live Free" .

The hotel has wide doorways, reinforced furniture and extra large chairs. It also boasts a private beach to protect people from the stares that can occur on public beaches. "It's not a hotel just for large people. It's a size-friendly place where anyone can enjoy a holiday," said owner J urrian Kilnk,"What we noticed was that a lot of oversized people don't feel comfortable at resorts. "Staff members of all sizes are hired by the hotel to make overweight people feel OK.

Though many welcome the new service, some feel differently. "I have a real problem with this,"said Nancy Lenhart, the owner of Camp La Jolia,a Californian weight-loss and fitness camp.
